Celebrating Spiritual Life and Worship in Assisted Living

Before moving to assisted living, many seniors devote their weekends to attending religious services, volunteering in their congregation, and enjoying the fellowship of their church families. Since this is such an important part of their lives, it is understandable that they may be concerned about the ability to continue their practice. Whether they have encountered physical challenges or are concerned about community restrictions, your loved one can rest assured that spiritual life and worship is a priority in assisted living.

HOME CHURCH

For many residents, continuing worship at their own parish or church is of vital importance. With the assistance of family members, friends, and church buses, residents can be transported to and from services of their choice. It’s a great way for them to have quality time with their friends and families and continue meaningful activities.

COMMUNITY Sunday Worship

Since not all residents have access to their home church, many assisted living communities offer on-site worship services. Through music, prayer, and scripture, residents come together on Sundays to share the Word and receive communion. Often times, voices can be heard echoing through the halls singing residents' favorite hymns and learning new ones. Participating in singing can be especially beneficial for residents with Alzheimer's and dementia.

IImage of a BibleNTEGRATING Technology

In assisted living, residents have access to various forms of technology that they can incorporate in their worship routine. While some residents may prefer popular television pastors and services, others are able to tap into their home church over the internet. Since these services are so convenient, they can enjoy an uplifting service from the comfort of their own room.

Celebrate with Music

Often times, musical groups from a local church, Girl or Boy Scout Troop or school performing club will visit assisted living communities to perform worship songs. In addition to being entertained, residents enjoy the change to the schedule and meeting new people. Especially around the holidays, more groups are looking for opportunities to perform - and assisted living communities love visitors!

Continued Learning

In order to encourage continued learning, many communities hold bible studies throughout the week. Some have them every day and others have them a few times a week. Residents enjoy the visitors that come in to host the studies and the lively discussions that can ensue. Some communities even host Revivals in conjunction with a local event or a Vacation Bible School. These events involve crafts, activities, and songs on-site in the community.

Almost all of our Senior Solutions communities offer transportation to offsite worship services as well as on-site celebrations for their residents. We understand the importance of continuing spiritual activities and traditions when residents live with us.
